2021 Massachusetts Amazing Emerging Artists Recognitions Exhibit Information

Due to the uncertainty brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the MAEA Recognitions Exhibit for 2021 will be a virtual exhibit, posted on the MAEA website.  We see this as a real-life opportunity for students to express what is important to them in a visually powerful way.  Presenting the exhibit online opens up the possibility of reaching a larger audience on a digital platform.

ADJUSTED RECOGNITIONS SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES FOR
2021:
1. Eligibility for submission: Artwork created between September 1, 2019 through January 15, 2021, that has not previously been submitted to MAEA Recognitions.
2. Artwork accompanied by an artist statement, submitted digitally via
Art Call; Deadline: January 15, 2021.
3. Jurying process January 15-30, 2021.
4. Online exhibit posted to MAEA website by March 1, 2021.

More about the exhibit: Piloted in 2018, the Massachusetts Amazing Emerging Artist Recognition Exhibit is a juried show for students of Massachusetts Art Education Association (MAEA) members in grades 9-12.  This exhibition has been very successful with participation growing annually.  Student entries are submitted digitally and judged by a panel of art educators. Selected works were exhibited at the State Transportation Building in Boston.

Center for Instructional Support Program 2020-2021

The Arts Leaders Network will support PreK-12 arts leaders to come together to engage in discussions relevant to the arts and their role as leaders within their districts. This network will provide participants an opportunity to share resources and strategies for implementing the 2019 Arts Curriculum Framework, discuss arts instructional materials, and connect with leaders from across the Commonwealth. It will provide participants an opportunity to deepen understanding of the major shifts and standards of the Framework, as well as accompanying guidance and resources, including response to COVID-19.

Audience:  Arts content leaders/lead teachers, arts content coaches, and arts coordinators or arts content designees invited to attend by a district’s curriculum director or school principal.

Location: Virtual sessions

Dates and Times: 11/5/20, 1/19/21, 3/10/21, 5/6/21

3:00 – 4:30 pm with optional working groups from 5:00 – 6:00 pm

WAEA Virtual Conference Partnership – Registration is Now Open

MAEA is happy to share that we are partnering with the Wisconsin Art Education Association to provide MAEA members with a fall virtual conference opportunity. 20/20 Vision will be hosted online on October 24, 2020 with a mix of both live events and pre-recorded sessions. All live sessions will also be recorded and added to the library of sessions and you will have access to those sessions until December 31, 2020 so you will be able to view sessions at your own pace.  Featured Massachusetts presenters include Sandy Coleman, Lauren Gould, Lydia Gruner, Chris Hall, Diane Jaquith, Kristi Oliver, and Emily & Robb Sandagata. Call for Art – 2021 MAEA Awards

The MAEA Awards Committee is currently accepting art submissions from artists for the 2021 MAEA awards. These will be awarded to our 2021 MAEA award winners this fall. The selected image will be printed on glass via Fracture for the awards ceremony. The deadline for submission has been extended through September 20, 2020. Learn more here.

PD Opportunity – MAEA Watch Party

MAEA is so excited to announce another PD opportunity for the 2020-2021 academic school year on a topic that we think will benefit the practice of many of our members. MAEA will be facilitating discussions around a series of NAEA online webinars that focus on the theme of ‘Special Populations and Situations in Art Education”. Viewing the full series of selected NAEA webinars and participating in the follow up discussions via zoom will allow educators to earn 10 PDPs. This opportunity is free for MAEA members and participants must be active NAEA/MAEA members to access the webinars for free. If you aren’t currently a member, we encourage you to join or renew today so you can participate in this amazing opportunity.

Supervisors Roundtable Discussion

We hope you will join our Supervisors Roundtable Discussion this coming Tuesday, August 25 to discuss potential topics related to the reopening of schools, curriculum topics, remote/hybrid teaching models, itinerant staff, limited supplies, and/or guiding arts teachers through the 2019 Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for the Arts.

The co-facilitators of this session are Patty Klibansky, Art, Theater, Dance Curriculum Director of the Lynn Public Schools and Alice Gentili, Art Department Chair of the Mendon-Upton Regional School District and visual arts/media arts educator at Miscoe Hill Middle School.

MAEA has released guidance for PreK-12 schools, administrators, and arts educators as they plan for the 2020-2021 school year, to ensure that we may continue to provide meaningful arts instruction for all students in Massachusetts.
