Registration Open: MASSACHUSETTS AMAZING EMERGING ARTISTS EXHIBITION

REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOVEMBER 13 – DECEMBER 6, 2019!

MAEA is sponsoring a juried art exhibit for high school students, grades 9 – 12, open to MAEA members only. Entries reflect original artwork from students in public and private schools. The exhibition will coincide with the Youth Art Month exhibit at the Massachusetts Transportation Building with an awards ceremony on March 1, 2020. Youth Art Month Statewide Exhibit

Make sure you are a part of our 2020 statewide Youth Art Month exhibit, where we will honor Massachusetts artists in grades k-12 and celebrate quality art education at the State Transportation Building in Boston.

Important Dates

Registration Open – Nov 13 – Dec 20, 2019
Exhibit Open – Feb 10 – Mar 26, 2020

Don’t forget you can also celebrate Youth Art Month in your school, with your district, and at a regional exhibit near you. Start your YAM planning for a school or district event with this quick start guide from the Council for Art Education.

Youth Art Month Flag Contest

Another way to participate in Youth Art Month is the 2020 Youth Art Month Flag Contest sponsored by Sargent Art.

This contest is open to students of MAEA members, grade k-12. Digital entries will be accepted November 13 – December 20, 2019.

Prizes include $250 in Sargent Art supplies for one overall winner and $500 in supplies for the art teacher, as well as $100 in Sargent Art supplies each for one elementary, middle and high school student and $300 in supplies for their art teachers. More information coming soon.

2020 MAEA Recognitions Exhibit

Secondary art educators, we invite you to participate in the third year of this exciting opportunity for high school art students.

This juried exhibit is open to students in grades 9-12. Participants must be students of an MAEA member.

Each teacher may submit up to 5 pieces of student artwork, with a limit of one entry per student and a $5 fee per entry.

Digital submissions will open be open November 13 – December 6, 2019.

MAEA Members Exhibit @ Montserrat College of Art

The MAEA Conference Committee is happy to announce that there will be a Members exhibit in conjunction with the MAEA Conference New Perspectives in Art Education next month! Active and retired MAEA Members are invited to submit their 2D artwork and small 3D work for the annual MAEA Members exhibit Continued Perspectives, at Montserrat College of Art.

The registration deadline is Friday November 1 – please note drop-off dates start before registration closes. If you register on November 1 you should plan to deliver work directly to Montserrat College of Art sometime the following week, or mail it in to be delivered by Wednesday November 6. Learn more and register for this exhibit today.

Join us and Celebrate Arts Matter Day on October 25

On #ArtsMatterDay October 25 the creative community will flood social media with images and videos celebrating why arts matter in Massachusetts. Join MAEA and MassCreative and sign up to say that you’re joining our online day of celebration.

MassCreative will list you as a partner on their website and invite you to:

  • Share that you’re celebrating #ArtsMatterDay and invite others to join on social media.
  • Celebrate #ArtsMatterDay on October 25 by posting pictures and videos and using #ArtsMatter to highlight your organization’s events and programs.

Massachusetts Craft Summit – Free for Grade 10 Students

Snow Farm is delighted to announce a FREE initiative to introduce young artists in Massachusetts to the craft school experience – learning traditional and contemporary craft in an immersive residential setting.

The MA Craft Summit will feature workshops in ceramics, drawing/painting, flameworking, flat glass, glassblowing, and metalsmithing/jewelry making.

National Art Education Foundation Grants Program: Request for Proposals

National Art Education Foundation Accepting Proposals for 2020-2021 Grants Program

The National Art Education Foundation (NAEF) is accepting applications for its annual grants program. As an independent, philanthropic organization, the National Art Education Foundation (NAEF) supports a wide variety of professional activities, including support for visual art educators to participate in professional development programs; the promotion of visual arts education as an integral part of the curriculum; the exploration of new models of visual arts instruction in public and private K-16 schools; the promotion of the teaching of art through activities related to the instructional process, curriculum, student learning, student assessment, management, or discipline; the purchase of equipment and/or instructional resources; and conducting research in visual arts education. NAEF has supported 330 projects since its inception in 1985. NAEF is a sister organization to the National Art Education Association (NAEA) and provides support for a variety of visual arts education programs for the Association and its members.

The National Art Education Foundation (NAEF) invites applications for the Ruth Halvorsen Professional Development Grants, Mary McMullan Grants, NAEF Research Grants, SHIP Grants, and Teacher Incentive Grants. Grants range from $1,000 to $10,500 depending on the grant category.

The Foundation was established as an independent, sister organization to the National Art Education Association (NAEA) to provide support for a variety of art education programs. Foundation grants are made only to NAEA members, including student and retired members, state/province associations, and recognized affiliates. In order to apply, individuals must have been an NAEA member as of October 1, 2018.

The project year for these grants is July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021. The postmarked deadline for submissions is October 1, 2019.

Call for Student Art: The Printed Image

MAEA is continuing our series of art education exhibitions in the second floor atrium/gallery space at the State Transportation Building in Boston. Middle school and high school art educators are invited to submit 10 pieces of student work. Work can be straight digital or film photographs, pieces that have been altered in some way, for example via digital manipulation, printmaking, AND 3D printed work (NEW). This exhibit opportunity is free for MAEA members. Non-members can participate by paying a $20 registration fee.
