The Massachusetts Art Education Association is proud to announce that Art All-State Massachusetts will celebrate its 33rd year in 2020 with a special Tape Art Edition! Each school or program may nominate two high school juniors.

Important Dates
January 1st: Intent to Nominate Form Due
January 31st: Application Materials Due
May 8th: Art All-State at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA
May 16th, 22nd and 30th: Art All-State at the Worcester Art Museum in Worcester, MA (accepted students will attend for one full day)

Arts Integration Institute – Call for Proposals //DESE, Arts Learning, MA Cultural Council, Lesley University

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, Massachusetts Cultural Council, Arts/Learning and Lesley University are pleased to host the Institute on Leadership in Arts Integration on March 13th & 14th, 2020, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The Institute will bring leaders in arts integration from around Massachusetts to present models for designing and implementing arts integration programs in PreK-12 schools.

Keynote presenters at the Institute will include State and National leaders in the arts and education, including Jamie Kasper, the newly appointed Director of the Arts Education Partnership of the Education Commission of the States.

In order to provide a variety of models of leadership in arts integration, we are seeking proposals from arts specialists, classroom teachers, school leaders, artists, and other professionals who have engaged in designing arts integration programs in schools.

Youth Art Month: Flag Contest – Deadline December 20

Celebrate Youth Art Month – Have your students enter the Youth Art Month Flag Contest sponsored by Sargent Art. This contest is open to students in grades K-12. Each teacher may submit up to 10 entries.

This year’s theme is TAKE A JOURNEY THROUGH ART.

One Grand Prize winner will receive: $250 to student PLUS $500 in Sargent Art supplies for your classroom.

One Elementary, Middle, and High School winner will receive: $100 worth of Sargent Art supplies to student PLUS $300 in Sargent Art supplies for your classroom.

Invitation to Apply for Arts Cultural Diversity Committee

Consider participating in the creation of a new and much needed resource. The Guidebook of Diverse Artists and Artworks will highlight 10 examples that are representative of the student population in Massachusetts. It will also provide best practices for including these artists and artworks into the arts curriculum so that they are presented in culturally responsive ways. Professional Learning Opportunities in Arts Education

1) Take the Online Course: Overview of the 2019 MA Arts Curriculum Framework

This two-hour online course provides a basic overview of the major shifts in the 2019 Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Framework. It consists of four self-paced, unlocking topic sections with embedded assessments at the conclusion of each to check for understanding. 2) Register for DESE’s Professional Development Series on the Arts Curriculum Framework

Earn 10 PDPs for participating in this professional learning series led by DESE’s Arts Education Ambassadors in every region of the state. The series is comprised of the two-hour online course as a pre-requisite, followed by 8 hours total of in-person sessions that examine the major components of the new Arts Framework as they apply to practice. Participants engage collaboratively with authentic hands-on tasks that unpack the artistic practices and content standards. Registration is open now. Funding for the 2020 NAEA Convention in Minnesota

If you are planning to attend the National Art Education Association Convention this March in Minneapolis Minnesota, you may be interested in a few opportunities to help fund this professional development.

First Time Attendee Scholarship – Cover Convention Registration fee; Up to three nights hotel accommodations at the NAEA designated hotel; Travel stipend of up to $300 for transportation and food. Deadline December 17.

Art Educator Scholarship – Covers Convention Registration Fee – Deadline December 17.

Additionally, besides the scholarships from NAEA, some of the NAEA Interest Groups offer travel awards with various requirements and deadlines. The Caucus of Social Theory in Art Education offers a travel award if you are presenting. The deadline January 15. The Community Arts Caucus also offers a travel award of $300. The deadline is January 10.

Registration Open: MASSACHUSETTS AMAZING EMERGING ARTISTS EXHIBITION

REGISTRATION IS OPEN NOVEMBER 13 – DECEMBER 6, 2019!

MAEA is sponsoring a juried art exhibit for high school students, grades 9 – 12, open to MAEA members only. Entries reflect original artwork from students in public and private schools. The exhibition will coincide with the Youth Art Month exhibit at the Massachusetts Transportation Building with an awards ceremony on March 1, 2020. Youth Art Month Flag Contest

Another way to participate in Youth Art Month is the 2020 Youth Art Month Flag Contest sponsored by Sargent Art.

This contest is open to students of MAEA members, grade k-12. Digital entries will be accepted November 13 – December 20, 2019.

Prizes include $250 in Sargent Art supplies for one overall winner and $500 in supplies for the art teacher, as well as $100 in Sargent Art supplies each for one elementary, middle and high school student and $300 in supplies for their art teachers. More information coming soon.

2020 MAEA Recognitions Exhibit

Secondary art educators, we invite you to participate in the third year of this exciting opportunity for high school art students.

This juried exhibit is open to students in grades 9-12. Participants must be students of an MAEA member.

Each teacher may submit up to 5 pieces of student artwork, with a limit of one entry per student and a $5 fee per entry.

Digital submissions will open be open November 13 – December 6, 2019.
