Hands-On Project-Based PD Offerings 2024

We are happy to continue the hands-on project-based series in 2024. See below for the March offering.  Each registrant will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of the individual workshop. If you attend a total of 5 unique workshops (10 hours), you can submit a request for a PDP certificate.

Most workshops will be offered twice a month – once on a Saturday morning and once on a Thursday evening. The content for Saturday and Thursday will be the same.

The April, May and June sessions will be recorded for anyone who can not attend live.

APRIL offering – Intro to Metal Tooling
Intro to metal tooling  SESSION 1 – April 11 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM ET
Intro to metal Tooling  SESSION 2 – April 13 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM ET

Metal tooling, sometimes called repoussé, involves the manipulation of soft metals to create simple to intricate designs.

In this two-hour hands-on workshop learn how to work with aluminum or copper metal sheeting, incising and texturing tools, and surface finishes through experimentation and exploration. Metal tooling lends itself to many themes, art historical connections, and mixed media applications that you can use in your own classroom.

A supply list will be provided prior to the workshop.

In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to:

  • Apply hand tooling techniques, such as chasing, embossing, encising, hammering, hemming, piercing, and punching.
  • Create a detailed bas relief metal sculpture.
  • Select faux finishes to enhance the details of the sculpture or artificially age the metal.
MAy offering – Exploring visual identity inspired by street art
Exploring visual identity inspired by street art – May 16 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM ET
NO Saturday Session this month

Street art has a rich history that many students and adults can identify with.

In this two-hour hands-on virtual workshop you will learn a brief history of street art and how it can be used as a tool for developing personal and artistic identity. Participants will use a series of graffiti style alphabets to design and draw their own meaningful tag, significant of their personality. The instructor will discuss how she has implemented this activity in the Art Classroom and workshop setting with upper Elementary to High School aged students, focusing on some of the challenges and strategies to produce vibrant, bold and carefully crafted artwork.

In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to:

  • Utilize street art as a tool for developing visual and artistic identity.

Additional Content:

  • Supplemental materials such as videos and visual images to assist in creation of tags as well include art historical context.

June offering – Teaching colored pencil
Teaching  COLORED PENCIL SESSION 1 – JUne 1  9:00 AM – 11:00 AM ET
Teaching colored Pencil SESSION 2 – june 6 6:00 pM – 8:00 PM ET

Master the art of colored pencil rendering and spark a newfound appreciation for this seemingly simple art medium for your students.

In this two-hour hands-on virtual workshop learn the basic tools, materials and techniques to introduce the exciting drawing medium of colored pencil into your curriculum or to add to your personal artistic practice. In two-hours complete a rich vibrant sphere and learn all the ways this simple form builds confidence and engagement in your art classroom.

In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to:

  • Layer, blend and burnish colored pencil for a smooth waxy finish.
  • Build rich dimensional hues and values without using a black pencil

Additional Content:

  • Strategies for successfully teaching colored pencil to middle and high school students of all skill levels and abilities.
